Filming began on May 1, 2007. The film carries an R rating by the MPAA for strong violence, disturbing images, language and brief nudity.[1] Alexandre Aja has mentioned that this project is not a remake of the 2003South Korean horror film Into the Mirror, though there are some similarities. Nevertheless, in the final credits of the film, it states that it is based on a true story.
